Corrigan-Camden looks to build momentum for playoffs

The Lufkin Daily News

Thursday, November 05, 2009

The Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs will get ready for the playoffs, while Diboll, Huntington and Groveton will wrap up their seasons in area football action tonight.

Here is a look at tonight's games.

Trinity (2-7, 0-4) at Corrigan-Camden (7-2, 3-1) — Since a loss to New Waverly, the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs have rolled to a pair of wins by a combined score of 97-13. Corrigan-Camden will look to build on that momentum tonight as it takes on a struggling Trinity Tigers team.

Trinity is winless in district and has not been close in any of the four contests. Since the start of 21-2A play, the Tigers have been outscored 175-36 with the closest decision being a 36-8 loss to Groveton.

That should lead to an easy night for a Corrigan-Camden team that is coming off a 40-7 win over the Centerville Tigers. Daryl Hulett had a big night to lead Corrigan-Camden's strong running game.

Kickoff for tonight's game in Corrigan is slated for 7:30.

Rusk (4-5, 1-3) at Diboll (2-7, 1-3) — Diboll will look for a win in its finale to end what has been an otherwise frustrating season.

Diboll is coming off a 54-25 loss to state-ranked Carthage despite strong efforts from Kamran McCollum and Terrance Taylor. McCollum ran for 116 yards and Taylor ran for 91 yards in the setback.

Rusk was eliminated from playoff contention with a 45-21 loss to Jasper last week and brings a three-game losing streak into tonight's game.

Carthage (9-0, 4-0) at Huntington (1-8, 0-4) — The Huntington Red Devils will face a tall task as they round out their season against defending state champion Carthage.

Huntington is coming off a 54-0 loss to Center and has been outscored 165-18 in four district games.

Carthage has been on the opposite end of the spectrum as it comes in with an unblemished record. The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 150-47 in four district contests.

Tonight's game in Huntington is slated for a 7:30 start.

Centerville (2-7, 1-3) at Groveton (2-7, 1-3) — The Groveton Indians will look to cap their season on a winning note as they host Centerville tonight.

Groveton is coming off a 37-16 loss to district champion New Waverly. Willie Washington ran for 170 yards on 28 carries in the loss.

Centerville has had plenty of its own struggles as it has only one district win, a 40-8 decision over Trinity.

Kickoff for tonight's game is slated for 7:30.
