CENTER — Center built a 20-0 lead before it ran its second offensive play Friday night, earning a spot in the Class 3A playoffs with a 54-0 thrashing of Huntington here at Roughrider Stadium.
The Roughriders ran a kickoff and a punt back for a score in the opening half and turned a Red Devil turnover into a 4-yard drive as they built a 27-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and a commanding 41-0 advantage at the half.
Center piled up 207 yards in the first half and finished with 347 yards, while limiting Huntington to just 27 yards during the first two quarters and 42 for the game.
Seven different Center players reached the end zone during the game. The first was J'Von Jones, who took the opening kickoff and returned it 76 yards for the score. The point after by Damian Bolton was wide right, but Center led 6-0 with only 11 seconds gone.
Center added a touchdown by Kevinski Pitts and a pair by Tre Sudds to take the commanding lead at the half.
Jacovian Johnson scored on a 6-yard run in the third quarter and Se'Ryan Netherly had a 38-yard score in the fourth to close the scoring.
