The Lufkin Panthers Swim Team got off to a quick start on the new season, with both the boys' and girls' teams finishing second at the Nacogdoches Invitational held Saturday in Nacogdoches .
Junior Michael Bronn brought home two first-place individual finishes, winning both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. Dillon Collins and Hagaen Spring also hit the wall first in their respective heats, with Collins taking the 200-yard freestyle and Hagaen winning the 100-yard breaststroke.
Those three, along with Shelton Steveson, also were instrumental in a pair of relay wins, with the team taking both the 200-yard medley and the 400-yard freestyle relays.
The Lady Panthers were able to put together a total team effort in finishing second, with Sophia Humphreys' 2nd place in the 200-yard freestyle the girls' best individual performance.
"I'm happy with the entire effort our teams showed," head coach Andy Stewart said. "I'm happy with the girls' placing; the team is small, young and inexperienced yet still managed to hang in for second place. They never gave up or gave up on each other. And our guys have set high goals for personal bests, and we could see that with Hagaen Spring's breaststroke effort. He's been trying to break out big in that event for an entire year.
"Overall, I really liked the intensity I saw from everyone."
The Pack will take part in The Woodlands Invitational on Nov. 7.
