JoCourtney Johnson had a big game on the ground for Corrigan-Camden and the Bulldogs raced to a 57-6 win over the Groveton Indians in Corrigan Friday night.
Groveton kept the game close for much of the first half as it trailed 27-6 at the half. But Corrigan-Camden broke open the game with a strong second half in which it outscored its rival 30-0.
"We played well tonight," Corrigan-Camden coach Seven Armstrong said. "We were kind of dragging early, but we came out after the half and put the game away in the third quarter. We played a great second half of football."
Armstrong credited Corrigan-Camden's offensive line for making room for Johnson throughout the night. He was the workhorse in another strong running game for Corrigan-Camden.
"Our offensive line did a great job in opening holes for him and he broke a few runs for us," Armstrong said.
Armstrong also gave credit to his defense, which allowed an early score before taking control of the game from there.
"We gave up one big play to them early on and that gave them the chance to score," Armstrong said. "But otherwise we completely shut them down."
Corrigan-Camden (6-2, 2-1) plays at Centerville Friday. Groveton (2-6, 1-2) plays at New Waverly.
