Riley receives AAUW sports award

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

SFA Ladyjack head basketball coach Lee Ann Riley was honored as a special service recipient for her contributions to sports by the Nacogdoches chapter of the American Association of University Women.

Riley, along with 2008 AAUW Woman of the Year, Lucille DeWitt, and four other special service recipients, were honored last Monday at a banquet in their honor.

"I was honored to receive the award," said Riley. "So much of our job is based on wins and losses. It is a humbling experience to be respected by your peers who are not affiliated with coaching."

An 18-year college coaching veteran, Riley has spent the past seven seasons in Nacogdoches as the head coach of the SFA Ladyjacks.

During that time, Riley has accumulated a 116-91 (.560) overall record, and guided SFA to two Southland Conference titles, two NCAA Championship appearances and the 2007 WNIT. Riley was also named the 2006 SLC Coach of the Year, after guiding SFA to a 23-8 (.742) overall record.
