LETTER: Porker or not?

Lufkin

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

Many government officials and many in our news media, feel that "pork" added to necessary government spending is OK if it "benefits the area." It's government money, so it must just fall out of the sky. We people who actually pay taxes and don't get it all refunded through ridiculous "tax credits," are paying for every "grant," "pork project" or "entitlement." Our government is finding it hard to borrow from other countries to keep up our current level of spending, so they print more money, devaluating our dollar. Devaluation raises the price of all imported goods, such as oil. Yet, with our economy stalled, our president and many in Congress demand programs which we simply cannot afford, including health care reforms costing over a trillion dollars. They promise to pay for the new programs with "savings" (anyone ever see the government save money?) and/or new taxes on the "rich" (I think you're considered rich if you actually earn a living). The "poor" will, of course, get tax credits (our tax money) to benefit from the new programs. Recently, hundreds of people lined up falsely thinking they would get their SHARE of the "stimulus" money. When interviewed, people said it came from Obama or the government. They did not know, nor did they care, that it came from the taxes we pay. The more you give some people, the more they feel they are "entitled" to. By making people comfortable in poverty, you remove their desire to rise out of poverty. Obama's promised "change" (spreading the wealth) is coming unless we draw the proverbial "line in the sand" and say "no more spending money we don't have and no higher taxes." Call or write your representatives and make your objections known. Attend rallies such as tea parties and Founders Alliance meetings. Stand beside your friends and neighbors to stop runaway government spending. Most importantly, don't vote for anyone who wants to increase government spending. Our future depends on our action!
