Thank you very much for the excellent article regarding "Legislation to expand, improve Big Thicket is a great green idea.," Page 6A, Wednesday, April 30, 2008. We especially want to thank and praise Congressman Kevin Brady for his proposal to expand and help preserve this national treasure and we wish to urge our Texas residents to support Bill H,R. 5891, as the bill: (1) Authorizes acquisition of as much as 100,000 additional acres for the Big Thicket National Preserve, which would double the size of the preserve. (2) Acquisition would be from willing sellers only (very important point). (3) The bill provides for a system of canopy walks, elevated boardwalks, and associated interpretation that connect visitors with the ecological diversity of the Preserve, with emphasis on reaching inaccessible spots. (4) It provides for an interpretive center and canoe/kayak trails with GPS waypoints and platforms for docking. Again, thank you for your position in favor of the Big Thicket bill.
