Q: Who was given awards at last year's Salute to Healthcare banquet?
A: The Nurse of the Year award was given to Norma Sanford, a longtime child advocate and director of the SANE program. Sanford has been treating child abuse victims in Angelina County for years and has made major strides in the community battling child abuse.
The Health Care Professional of the Year award was given to Dr. Ravinder Bachireddy, a renowned local cardiologist who has brought many advances in the ever-changing field to Lufkin over his 25 years.
The Individual of Merit award was given to Ray Polk, local businessman and philanthropist. Polk and his family have donated thousands of dollars over the years for diabetes treatment in Angelina County and helped finance a state-of-the-art diabetes center at Memorial Health System of East Texas.
The Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Dr. W.D. Thames, born and raised in Lufkin in 1925, for more than 60 years of serving patients in Angelina County.
