Lufkin woman dies Friday after two-vehicle accident

A Lufkin woman died after a two-vehicle accident on Highway 103 east at the intersection of Whitehead Road Friday afternoon.

Fay Berry Terry, 64, was pronounced dead at 3:42 p.m. Friday at Memorial Health System of East Texas, about an hour after the accident.

A Ford F-250 driven by William Edward Whitaker, of Lufkin, was backing without safety and struck a 2001 Dodge pickup driven by Thomas Norman Terry, of Lufkin, who was southbound. All three passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

No other injuries were reported. DPS Trooper Rodney Tucker is investigating the accident.

A man reported he left his locked vehicle in the parking lot in the 1700 block of West Frank Avenue at his place of employment and when he returned to his vehicle after his shift, he found his driver's side window shattered, his dash damaged, and his DVD/CD car stereo stolen.

A man reported that he and a friend met up with some females in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Chestnut Street, and he was confronted by a subject who said he was a boyfriend of one of the females and threatened him with a gun. The man reported that he attempted to grab the gun, and cut his hand in the process, and then the subject struck him in the arm with a baseball bat.

A gunshot was heard from outside a man's apartment and he found a bullet hole in his shower wall. An officer also found a bullet hole in the fence behind the apartment in the 2400 block of West Frank Avenue.

A man reported when returning to his vehicle after work parked at his place of employment in the 2400 block of First Street, he found the window was busted out and his CD player stolen along with his speakers that were in the trunk.

Apartment residents advised they were in the process of moving out of their apartment and still had three days left before they had to be out when they returned to move the remainder of their property and found it all was gone from the apartment in the 2600 block of First Street. The residents reported a neighbor seeing apartment maintenance men moving their property from the apartment.

A man reported that he stopped at a business to talk to a friend at Raguet Street and Abney Avenue, and left his wallet and children in the vehicle. His children got out of the vehicle a few minutes later to come inside, and he believes they may have knocked the wallet out of the vehicle when getting out and that someone picked it up.

A loss prevention officer reported he observed two men stealing a bottle of cold medicine in the 3000 block of John Redditt Drive and when he attempted to detain them, they refused to cooperate. One of the subjects dropped the medicine in the parking lot when leaving. Police located the vehicle later unoccupied at a residence.

A man reported that after confronting a subject about drinking one of his beers when the subject had beer of his own to drink, the subject grabbed him by the jacket and threw him to the ground before others intervened to stop the assault in the 1100 block of Kurth Drive.

A convenience store manager in the 600 block of North Raguet Street reported that one of her clerks observed a male coming out of the restroom concealing a carton of cigarettes down the front of his pants. When the male saw the clerk, he ran out of the store and into some nearby woods.

A man reported he and his family had left their residence in the 500 block of Largent Street for a couple of hours only to return to find the door to their residence in the garage had been kicked open and several of their video game systems had been stolen from their TV room.

A woman reported she turned her vehicle over to car wash employees to have it cleaned in the 300 block of South Timberland Drive and afterward she noticed her money pouch was sitting in the passenger seat, and when she opened it to give a tip, she noticed more than $20 cash that was inside was gone.

A teen reported that at the end of her lunch period at school in the 300 block of Medford Drive, another female student assaulted her for reasons unknown by grabbing her from behind by the hair, throwing her to the ground, and banging her head on the floor.

A woman reported someone had again broken into her previously burglarized vacant residence in the 500 block of Cain Street. No additional property was observed missing.

A man reported that he honked his horn at a vehicle that almost slowed to a stop going over tracks at Pershing and Angelina streets, and the vehicle then slammed on its brakes. The man admitted to yelling out a racial slur, resulting in a confrontation in which the subject punched him in the face.

A man reported that his soon to be ex-wife assaulted him by pushing him, and scratching him on the neck, in an attempt to get him out of their vehicle so she could take it in the 1600 block of Atkinson Drive.

The Lufkin Police Department made four arrests late Friday and early Saturday. Arrests and charges included: David A. Persano, 32, theft by check; Daniel Ozell Holman, 57, DWI (second); Brittanie S. Frazier, 22, 13 Class C warrants; and Jose Gilberto Orta, 23, DWI, failure to stop and give info, four Class C warrants;

The Angelina County Sheriff's Office made 14 arrests late Friday and early Saturday. Arrests and charges included: Michelle Kent, 59, motion to revoke probation, theft; Barbara Stillson, 25, evading arrest, courtesy hold; Christian Williams, 27, courtesy hold; Maurice Figures, 20, courtesy hold; Noah Cameron, 19, courtesy hold; Kenneth Thompson, 35, courtesy hold; Oscar Melanson, 24, forgery, courtesy hold; Solomon Guillory, 24, possession, courtesy hold; Kevin Ficteau, 43, courtesy hold; Termaine Hearns, 28, courtesy hold; Frankie Dwayne Mark, 21, order of surrender, possession of a controlled substance; Daniel Lynn Murray, 28, motion to revoke probation, escape, bodily injury, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle; Noelle Jeanette Thomas, 20, driving while license suspended; and Michael Robert Mariana, 22, delivery of a dangerous drug, failure to control speed, no motor vehicle inspection, expired license plates.

The Diboll Police Department arrested Ebony Scott, 25, for criminal trespass late Friday.

The Department of Public Safety arrested Brendon James Haley, 21, for possession of marijuana late Friday.

———

The Angelina County Jail housed 271 inmates as of 10:17 a.m. Saturday.
