Lufkin attorney arrested for old traffic warrants

A Lufkin attorney was taken into custody Tuesday morning by the Lufkin Police Department.

Charlie Meyers, 54, of Lufkin, was arrested and charged with four Class C misdemeanors at 9:49 a.m. Tuesday by the Lufkin Municipal Court.

Meyers posted $2,000 bail and was released from the Angelina County Jail two hours later. Brian Smith, a city marshal with the municipal court, said Meyers' arrest was the result of unpaid fines.

"He was taken into custody for a number of old traffic violations," Smith said.

Meyers was unavailable for comment Wednesday. His secretary said he was working in Sabine County all day.

A man reported that his girlfriend stabbed him in the hand with a fork during an argument Sunday morning on Lazy Oaks Street. He later decided not to file charges.

A woman reported that her ex-boyfriend is repeatedly calling her phone and harassing her at her home on Kurth Drive. The suspect is the man who reported the fork stabbing.

An employee was discovered to have stolen money from a business Monday in the 4600 block of South Medford Drive.

A woman's husband reportedly choked her and shoved her against a wall during an argument Tuesday morning on Ellis Avenue.

A battery and an impact wrench were stolen from a business Monday night in the 1500 block of Atkinson Drive.

A cell phone was stolen from a woman's purse while she was visiting a friend's house Tuesday evening in the 200 block of Finley Street.

A woman was assaulted by her boyfriend and he threatened to harm her when she called 911 to report the assault Tuesday on Lazy Oaks Street.

Two male juveniles were seen stealing bags of candy from a store Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of South Chestnut Street.

The suspects fled on foot when confronted.

A TV/VCR combo was stolen from a home Monday night in the 700 block of Ricks Street.

A man stole boots two separate times at a business Tuesday in the 4600 block of Medford Drive.

A woman reported that her ex-boyfriend continues to send her numerous text messages after being told not to do so. She reported that he has sent her as many as 200 in an hour.

A check that had been stolen earlier this year was forged and passed at a Lufkin store recently in the 300 block of South Chestnut Street.

A purse was stolen from a woman's workplace Tuesday in the 1700 block of West Frank Avenue. She went back and checked all the rooms she had been in and the purse was missing.

The Lufkin Police Department made nine arrests late Tuesday and early Wednesday. Arrests and charges include: Miguel Laviano, 30, capias warrant, no driver's license; Candace Cannova, 30, five capias warrants; Cathy Woodson, 30, theft of services, issuance of bad checks; Christina Ann Dixon, 37, capias warrants, running a red light, no insurance; Nina Boudreaux, 37, fraud; Edwin Ayala, 28, assault/family violence; Ursula Green, 24, failure to identify, theft, capias warrant; and Gary Paul Davenport, 36, public intoxication.

The Angelina County Sheriff's Office made 10 arrests late Tuesday and early Wednesday. Arrests and charges include: Amanda McRae, 30, probation violation for assault; Kelly Dorsey, 29, judgment for evading arrest; Steven Kennedy, 45, motion to revoke probation; David Meeks, 26, speeding, no insurance; Kreasha Sims, 23, bench warrant for arson; Tanya Lee Johnson, 29, federal detainee; Darusha Davis, 18, disorderly conduct; Thomas Wesley Largent, 27, eight Class C misdemeanors; Katherine Bell, 30, public intoxication; and Jarrod Rosario, 23, public intoxication.

The Pct. 1 Constable's Office arrested Kelvin Madison, 39, late Tuesday and charged him with motion to adjudicate guilt for evading arrest.

The Texas Department of Public Safety arrested George Harris, 22, Tuesday evening and charged him with possession of marijuana.

The Angelina County Jail housed 253 inmates as of 10 a.m. Wednesday.
