LDN employee involved in auto-pedestrian accident

An auto-pedestrian accident involving a newspaper employee and a 12-year-old girl Friday resulted in minor injuries.

Witnesses said the girl ran out in front of Lufkin Daily News reporter Nick Wade's pickup and was hit after she crossed through two lanes of stopped traffic and into oncoming, moving traffic, an accident report stated.

The accident happened on Lufkin Avenue in the eastbound lane, between the CVS and Walgreens pharmacies, at approximately 4 p.m.

The girl's injuries on the report were listed as non-incapacitating. She was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and released without being admitted, a hospital spokesman said.

Assault was reported by a woman who said her husband hit her in the face and caused her to drive off the roadway onto a steep embankment while she was driving in the 1400 block of South Medford Drive, a police report stated. The woman said her husband took her cell phone when she tried to dial 911 and left on foot, the report stated.

A satellite radio was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 200 block of East Denman Avenue early Monday, a police report stated. A man awoke to his car alarm sounding and discovered his car had been burglarized.

Assault was reported by a woman who said she was shoved and hit in the head by a person she knows during a disturbance Sunday night in the 1300 block of Crooked Creek, a police report stated.

Windows of a vacant apartment in the 3500 block of North John Redditt Drive were broken Sunday night, a police report stated. A person who lives in the area reported hearing glass breaking and then saw three males leaving the area.

A minor shoulder injury was reported Sunday by a man who said he was injured in a mutual fight with a man he knows, a police report stated. The man did not want to file charges.

Harassment was reported by a person who has received numerous phone calls by a person he or she knows, a police report stated.

A boy's bicycle was stolen from a yard in the 1000 block of Jones Street Saturday night, a police report stated.

A basket of clothes and a hand-held vacuum cleaner were stolen from a back porch in the 1100 block of North First Street Sunday, a police report stated.

Assault was reported by a woman who said someone she knows hit her several times during an argument about debt Sunday afternoon in the 1700 block of South First Street, a police report stated.

Theft was reported by a woman who said a person she knows took her purse and then returned it later with two debit cards missing, a police report stated.

The Lufkin Police Department made three arrests late Sunday and early Monday. Arrests and charges included: Patrick S. Green, 38, parole violation for assaulting a public servant; Derek Joe Jones, 33, tampering with a witness and displaying fictitious tags; and Tony R. Evans, 20, assault by threat.

The Huntington Police Department arrested Kenneth Lane Goff, 46, and charged him with motion to adjudicate guilt for resisting arrest and revocation of probation for DWI.

———

The U.S. Forest Service arrested Shawn Renee Cahill, 45, and charged him with DWI.

———

The Angelina County Jail housed 254 inmates as of 11 a.m. Monday.
