Mrs. Shelton I do not know who you asked about my religious background, but it wasn't me. I would be glad to speak with you sometime and let you ask all the questions you like. The first time I felt the power of God's love I was less than 10 years old standing next to my grandmother and three of her sisters as they sang the gospel in the pulpit of the church where my great-grandfather preached. During my life I have visited Pentecostal, Nazarene, First Christian, Church of Christ, Methodist, Baptist, Roman Catholic and finally settled on Episcopal. I have been baptized with water and confirmed which is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I haven't attended church in about five years since moving to Nacogdoches and the church I was attending made it clear that my partner and I were not welcome. There has been so much controversy over the gay bishop and gay marriage that I have not felt comfortable attending church since moving back to Lufkin. I believe God will lead me back to a church where I can feel safe and worship without people trying to change what God has created in me. I have attended Bible study and do read and study the Bible every day. God does not want us to place our faith in anything but him. I believe that I became too dependent on the church for strength in my faith and God led me away for a while. I have faith in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit and try to follow what they put on my heart and walk the path they led me to. No human has all the answers, only God knows the plan he has for us. I hope this clears up any confusion you had about me. May God bless and keep you safe in his loving arms.
