LETTER: Closing the church doors

Lufkin

Sunday, November 08, 2009

There will be a time when we will all sit before the judgment seat of Christ and would you be proud and stand behind your works? Or would you feel that you could have been nicer, worked harder, done more? I know I sure would feel everything but pride! We blame so much on the economy and it has become a coin phrase to describe every wrong-doing that occurs. But, when it came to my attention that it has now interfered with church, too that crossed a major line with me! I am a single mom in search of where my son and I belong spiritually and have discovered that a very large amount of churches no longer have Sunday night services ''because of the economy!'' This just turned my stomach to hear that, to save money and resources, churches are closing their doors altogether if not enough people show up! Why not stick with consistency and pray harder for patrons to show up instead of closing the door altogether? What's next... making Sunday school a "Skype" or webisode attendance only? I am only 28 and even I come from a time where we spent Sunday morning and night at church and Wednesday nights too. That is three measly time frames, but apparently even that has become too much for some. Let us not give up... when you stand before that seat of judgment, do you really want to have to explain to God that you closed the door on saving souls "because the economy got too rough?"
