I would like to thank the residents of Angelina County for coming out to celebrate the lives of those who have had cancer, remember those we have lost and to fight back against a disease that takes too much.

Eighty-four teams participated in 2009 Relay For Life of Angelina County, raising more than $287,345 for the American Cancer Society's research, education, advocacy and service programs. I am very proud to announce that Relay For Life of Angelina County was awarded a position in the Top Ten Community Events for the entire High Plains Division, which is comprised of Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Hawaii and Guam.

Special thanks go out to the many Relay For Life volunteers who worked to make this event a success. We also appreciate the generosity of this year's corporate sponsors. Relay For Life would not be possible without them.

Once again, the citizens of our community have stepped forward to show they care. What a great place to call home!

The Relay For Life committee did an outstanding job of putting the event together and are getting ready for next year. The 2010 Relay For Life of Angelina County will kick off Nov. 10 at Behannon's Warehouse. Mark your calendar to attend the kick off and find out the many ways you can become involved in Relay For Life to be held May 7-8, 2010.
