Stanley New and Andra Self were reelected to the Lufkin school board Saturday.

The school district had all votes counted Saturday night except five from Box 3. New got 428 votes, Self got 401 and first-time challenger Robert Shy had 147.

"I'd like to thank the voters for giving me another opportunity to serve the children of this district," Self said. "I look forward to continued work with the board and superintendent and all of the administrators and professionals and everyone that work very hard to help insure we provide a quality education for our students. I look forward to accomplishing the goals we set forth with our bond issues and continued academic excellence. I'm excited to be able to serve again."

Attempts to New for comment Saturday night were unsuccessful.

In other elections, Diboll's home rule charter passed, with 254 voters voting for it and 150 against it. The charter will give the city authority to regulate itself instead of having to follow state guidelines in all cases.

Incumbent Don Hendricks and challenger Gary Jones won two of the three full-term positions on the Diboll City Council. Hendricks had 213 votes and Jones had 194 votes. Incumbent Fred Mitchell and challenger Gary Mike Smith tied for the third position, each having 175 votes.

"That's going to have to be worked out," Diboll City Manager Kenneth Williams said.

Incumbent Gandy Stubblefield, who was also vying for one of the seats, got 139 votes.

For a replacement one-year term on the council, Larry Cook won with 245 votes. Bryan Wilson had 78 votes and Charles Chapman had 72.

In the Diboll school board election, Chuck Mann, Trey Wilkerson and Kent Havard won seats. Havard had 387 votes, Mann had 294 votes, Wilkerson had 269, Gary Hurley had 226 and Jimmy Mettlen had 130.

The Central school board elections resulted in Bud Boles and Tim Sprinkle winning seats. Boles won the first position with 133 votes, with challenger Carl Lewis getting 107. Sprinkle won the second position with 105 votes to top Keith Weathers (71) and Donnie Mathews (65).

In the Hudson ISD election, Richard Jones won Position 5 with 50 votes versus Julie Mays' 35. Michael Evans was unopposed for the Position 4 seat.

In the Zavalla school board election, Kevin Roebuck and Jamie Dykes won seats. Roebuck had 282 votes, Dykes 172, Barry Burch 109 and Randy Hanna 98.

In the city election for Zavalla, Randall Dikes and Sunny Williams were elected to the council. Dikes had 80 votes, and Williams had 57. Challenger Richard Brunk got 42 votes.
