HUDSON ISD NEWS: Hudson High School invites vets to breakfast

District News: The Hudson High School Student Council invites all veterans to the 9th annual Veterans Day Breakfast and Program, which will be held in the Hudson gym on Wednesday. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 until 9:40 a.m. with the program scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. For more information or to RSVP, please call the high school office (875-9284) or Leslie Ashby (875-9241).

Freshman Emma Avery, who made the High School Region Honor Choir recently at auditions at Whitehouse High School. She will get to sing with that choir Nov. 14, at the Region Choir Concert.

School is out the week of Nov. 23-27.

Hudson Middle School: Several middle school students received honors during Red Ribbon Week. Eighth grader Sarah Sanders won the Angelina County Essay Contest for grades 7 and 8. Her essay will be printed in an upcoming issue in The Lufkin Daily News. Eighth grader Mason Busbee received Honorable Mention in the Essay Contest (grades 7-8). Eighth grader Ashlie Cartwright was the age 11-14 winner in the Coloring Contest sponsored by KSWP. Eighth grader Abner Dragustinovis was the age 15 & up Coloring Contest winner and the Grand Prize winner. Seventh grader Jeremycia Rogers received Honorable Mention for the age 11-14 category. There entries were chosen out of almost 1,000 entries. Seventh grader Connor Lankford was one of the five finalists in the Slogan Contest. Although his wasn't chosen as the theme for next year, it is quite an honor to be in the Top 5.

Nominations are being accepted for the Middle School Gifted and Talented program. If you would like for your child to be nominated, please send a written request to your child's counselor or you may complete the nomination form found in the Counselor's Corner webpage (Hudson ISD website). Nominations will be accepted until Friday, December 18, 2009. For further information, contact your child's school counselor.

High School News: High School Yearbooks One Day Sale is on Nov. 12.

Reserve your yearbook today for $45 without a name plate or $50 with a name plate. After this sale, the book price increases to $55.

Angelina County College Night is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at Lufkin High School. Many college/university representatives will be there to meet parents and students. There will also be someone from the military branches at this event. This is a great opportunity to browse and get information on your schools of interest. All grade levels are invited.

National Honor Society's annual induction of new members will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 in the auditorium. A reception will follow in the high school foyer.

The Senior Winter Formal will be from 8 p.m. to midnight Dec. 19 at Crown Colony Country Club. This is the dance for seniors and their dates.

The New Image Show Choir will be performing their 2009 version of "Santa's Frosty Follies" during this holiday season. If you have a club, civic organization or social holiday activity/party that needs holiday entertainment, please call Miss West at 875-9291 or e-mail west@hudsonisd.org, to see if we can get you on the performing calendar.
