SENIOR NEWS: Bingo at the Senior Center

Contributing writer

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

We have many things going on here at the Senior Center, and right now, we're talking about Bingo. We have Bingo each Monday and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. The purpose of this is to entertain you and you might even get a little thrill. The big thing is when you win, you get a nice little prize, plus the thrill of being a winner. We have people coming from different businesses to call Bingo and to bring some of the prizes. These companies are Southland Health Care, Grace Care, A Pineywoods Home Care, Crown Health Service, Texas Home Health, Target Store and Trinity Mission of Diboll. We appreciate and thank them very much. If you have not tried Bingo, try it and you may be surprised how much fun you'll have.

We have a nice lunch five days a week at 11:30 a.m. We'll welcome you, tell a joke or two, enjoy our lunch and fellowship. We'd like to see the pictures of your children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and if there is such a thing great-great-grandchildren! Speaking of which, if all goes well... I'm going to become the great-grandmother of identical twin girls! Isn't that something?

OK, back to the Center... We love to laugh with you, hold your hand when you are sad and be a friend. We have great people working here, Robyn Hight is our director, Dimple Walker, our Meals-On-Wheels Clerk; and Nell Addington, our site manager. Marilyn McDowell, tracking; Olivia Miller, Office clerk; Chef Amondo Martinez, three cooks and another cook-in-training. Our funding comes from DETCOG, United Way, DAV and local contributions. Without this there would be no Center. We certainly thank them and we do know how important they are. What great thing they to for us and others.

Elsie's singing is doing great, "42" is still eight or nine tables each time, Chickenfoot is still being played and gospel singing is still each Friday. Our RSVP meetings are the second Tuesday each month and our luncheon party is the second Wednesday of each month. See you at one of these events or all of them!
