10/25 HUDSON SCHOOLS: District preparing to celebrate Red Ribbon Week

District News: Red Ribbon Week is scheduled for Monday through Friday; theme for the week is The World Starts with You and Me. Be Drug Free. The campuses will have various activities and programs scheduled promoting "Be Drug Free."

Classes will be dismissed at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Just a reminder of the new law that went into effect Sept. 1 prohibiting an operator of a motor vehicle from using a wireless communication device while operating a motor vehicle within a school-crossing zone unless the operator is using a hands-free device. Please do not use your cell phones within the school crossing zone. An offense is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine.

Peavy Primary News: Other events for October include Rock Solid Character (Rock Climbing) on Monday and Tuesday.

Red Ribbon Week is Monday through Friday, while Friday also is '50s day at Peavy.

Peavy Primary is selling Butter-Braids for a fundraiser. If interested contact the front office 875-9344.

Bonner Elementary News: Trunk-or-Treat will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Hudson Middle School: On the middle school campus each day will be designated a certain theme and students are encouraged to support these activities.

Monday is "Help Make the World a Better Place — No Drugs and Go Green" — students may wear recycling shirts, dress in green or their Red Ribbon Week T-shirt. Tuesday — "Team Up Against Drugs" — wear your favorite team shirt. Wednesday — "Ban Together Against Drugs Buddy Day" — dress like your buddy. Thursday — "Make Drugs a Thing of the Past" — dress from your favorite decade.

Friday: If you are not participating in the high school costume contest you should wear red or your Red Ribbon Week T-shirt.

Nominations are being accepted for the Middle School Gifted and Talented program. If you would like for your child to be nominated, please send a written request to your child's counselor or you may complete the nomination form found in the Counselor's Corner Web page (Hudson ISD Web site).

Nominations will be accepted until Dec. 18. For more information, contact your child's school counselor.

Hudson Middle School student body elected Student Council officers from eighth grade in September. The 2009-2010 president of student council is Mason Busbee; vice-president is Sarah Sanders; secretary is Serena Chae and treasurer is Jana Rosario.

The HMS student body this school year consists of 40 7th and 8th graders. Meetings are held weekly. During that time students vote on various activities held at different times in the semester. The goal is to work with the community/parents more frequently through involvement in school functions and to be a support group for transfer students to the middle school.

High School News: High School Yearbooks One Day Sale is Nov. 12. Reserve your yearbook today for $45 without a name plate or $50 with a name plate. After this sale, the book price increases to $55.

High School will be giving the Exit Level TAKS retests this week.

The New Image Show Choir will be performing their 2009 version of "Santa's Frosty Follies" during the holiday season.
