WIC now rolling out healthier food options

Whole grains, fresh produce and soy-based products are some of several new food items available for the first time to the more than 3,800 Angelina County mothers, infants and children benefiting each month from a federal food assistance program. The overhaul of food choices offered by WIC, which will be locally available Monday, is the first of its kind in decades, according to Angela Quillin, WIC program director for Angelina County and Cities Health District.Link to full story.

Only the best for our local WIC recipients! Better yet, just give these people a few free passes to Outback Steakhouse or Ralph & Kacoo’s. If the goal is to feed them good, then by all means, let’s feed them really good!

Another grand example of our tax dollars at work!!!

At least with WIC they dictate nutrition and what exactly can be bought. If they are going to be on government subsidies then at least they should have to feed their children something of value.

The Lonestar card on the other hand pretty much allows anything (though at it’s induction it did not). Having worked as a cashier before, I have seen quite a few who just provided TV dinners 7 days a week for the kids and come family reunion, holiday or party time, quite a few who got together and used their entire government subsidy for that month on one event.

This is the reason why government programs don’t work. It isn’t the concept that is flawed, it’s the people who seek only to abuse it for free handouts.

But of the two I would rather see the money go for a program that supports or dictates (As is sometimes necessary) nutrition than one that supports junk food and meals in a box no cooking required.

To Stop and Think…

That’s not fair to Wic recipients.. A lot of them have jobs and work very hard and pay taxes. Times are hard so we all need a little extra help. Have you seen how much milk is or formula? It isn’t cheap. Give them a break. I’m sure at one time in your life you were given a break.

If we are to provide money to the public, it should be controlled. I too have seen this everytime I goto the store, cartfull of junk food on Lonestar then cigarrettes and beer out of pocket. There is no shame anymore because everyone is “equal”. We are NOT all equal, we are all given the same opportunities, some take them, some live off others hard earned money. When our government can no longer take care of these people what will happen? a famine, I think not. Survival of the fittest has worked for MILLIONS of years, but our gov’t has taken away all common sense and responsibility from society as a whole.

WIC was always, and will be a tax-based program for families who cannot afford, or are uneducated enough to know nutritional value.

On the other hand, I cannot seem to understand (well, I DO understand this, but it is incomprehensible to wonder about) how come people in any level of society and economical standard simply do not know how to feed their children, or themselves.

I see so often, people of lower classes and economical stations; and low education or/and low intellect, grabbing bags of potato chips, candy, soda, cheap white bread, hot dogs and other literal crap off the shelves of supermarkets, and swipe their WIC cards through the machine and go home. Is this is what they eat for dinner, I wonder? It is little wonder the WIC program tries to educate those people who are so unknowingly stupid in their choice of foodstuffs.

Everyone here seems to have seen this same experience happening; and I really doubt any federal program will satisfy their adhering to the food products they are used to. See these little kids everywhere, emotionally erratic, goofy-looking…sort of mentally handicapped in some way and with bad teeth and dirty hands…then watch what their mom puts in the shopping cart. The story is told.

The US government is allowing itself to be swallowed - by itself. With the millions of influx of illegals in this country, programs such as WIC will have to take these people, put them aside, speak their South American languages, try to train them in the proper types of food the United States people eat, change their eating and food intake habits around, tell them greasy tacos with hot dogs or date-terminated hamburg sprinkled into them, and soda is not a meal. When people like this come here, they eat like they never ate before, and lost of them do not care about WIC - it is just another free-bee to them, deserving as the US will take care of everyone.

At Randall’s, I, too have seen the mom load up on boxes of mac and cheese, and other frozen things and ‘tv dinners’ they eat on a weekly basis…guess mom don’t know how to cook, either. Or cannot figure out how to turn the stove on.

WIC program is good, but the quality of it’s recipients, for the most part, are really hard to re-educate into this society as we know it.

Now…I have to go. The microwave just ‘dinged’ and my popcorn is ready. Time for breakfast!

On Sunday, my wife and I were checking out at WalMart. In the lane next to us a “group” of people were also checking out: One white girl, one black girl and a white man, one small black child with snot running down his face unchecked and anothe adolescent white child. They were all together, all young and appeared quite healthy, though somewhat unclean. Their total bill came to $470 and change! And very little cheap foods. And out comes the Lone Star Card! I’m nearing 70 and retired on social security alone. My wife is 60 and still having to work full time. Want to know why America is tired of the welfare state that LBJ created? Ask me!!
