City, county officials call for stronger input on hurricane recovery money

Lufkin Mayor Jack Gorden urged East Texas county and city officials in a 12-county regional meeting Thursday in Woodville to join together in an effort to lobby for more control over $208.8 million dispersed in a second round of Hurricane Ike recovery money. The federal money — part of a second round to help communities prepare for future natural disaster — was carved out by the Texas Department of Rural Affairs, formerly known as the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.Link to full story.

“DETCOG officials have said Hurricane Ike’s force within its region did not cause a great need for further housing. It did make them aware of the need for more infrastructure and economic development in place to better handle future natural disasters.”

Well, there you have it. The local officials with such a stellar record for past economic development boondoggles want another go at it… of course, with someone else’s money. Some things never change.

Sit back & watch. All of these official’s “good buddies” will line up to place bids for a shot at the money. Any time I hear the words “infrastructure” or “economic development”…the taxpayers are about to be fleeced. QUIT WASTING OUR MONEY!

This time, we can house them at the Pines Theatre. It’s perfect. They can watch movies before they lay around and gripe about eating free food. AND there’s plenty of parking since no one goes downtown anyway.

Oh…here we go again. The “Clubbies” are at it once more. If there is money somewhere available for their “communities”, here come the same bunch of the good-old-boys ready and waiting to form a more perfect union, establish their own justice, and be on the take once the funds are dispersed, and create some platform that hides the truth into “disaster planning” or something like that.

Their profile never stops to be obvious. Same age group, suit-wearers, power ties, white or graying hair, and politically at an advantage to take control of these kinds of events and expenditures forthcoming. “Just for old time’s sakes, good buddies…we are all in this together”.

One cannot reap the goodness of the bounty alone…corruption is too obvious for one. Best to share.

But have no fear…more is on the way…Obama is printing more greenbacks…more stimulus funds are going out secretely nowadays…and guess what…we are bidding to get more of it. “Walter, next time that waitress comes by our table, send her my way, I want to ask her a question concerning “stimulating funds…er, stimulus funds.”
