Our economy: How bad is it?
Lufkin, Angelina County and the rest of Deep East Texas gulped at the closing of Citation’s foundry here — a move that will affect nearly 400 people — and exhaled with relief when 1,200 union workers on Thursday approved a new Lufkin Industries contract.

Wow! The EDITOR had to write this PR announcement from the local economic “officials.” Public negativity towards 4B thievery—consider thyself nipped in the bud.

Thank to the LDN for their usual hard eyed and objective financial analysis of the economic prospects for Angelina county. My confidence in both the local and national economy is hereby fully restored. Prosperity is just around the corner… surely within the two decades suggested as a reasonable time line by our visionary economic development leaders. Such assurances make it so much easier for property owners to write checks offsetting the tax abatement incentives used to lure supposedly lucrative manufacturing jobs to Lufkin. By official reckoning, the first of these prizes should arrive within the next ten years. In the meantime, endure your appraisal creep with good humor, and maintain faith in our local luminaries with their impressive record for results. We are blessed indeed, or should that be bled?
