Gettin’ bugged: Return of the love bugs can damage car’s paint job
Hordes of love bugs have begun making a return threat to car paint jobs in East Texas.
Carwashes and driveways have become war zones as the fight begins to remove the coating of squashed bug bodies from bumpers, headlights and hoods. Leaving the bugs on your car’s paint too long can cause damage, according to Dr. Paul Risk, professor emeritus in the College of Forestry at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Where do the love bugs come from? I once heard a rumor when i was a kid that they were engineered in a lab and released for some “environmental” purpose. Just curious.

A dryer sheet will also work to remove the love bugs!! Just get the area wet and scrub with dryer sheets, then rinse off!! Something in the dryer sheet takes it right off—really easy and smells good!
