Lufkin ISD using entire home side of Abe Martin Stadium for reserve seating during football season
In an effort to allow parents to secure a spot in the stands, Lufkin ISD is using the entire home side of Abe Martin Stadium for reserved seating during the upcoming football season.

Is there 1100 parents to take the seats? I dont’ see the problem with seating other than not purchasing in advance. Don’t expect to walk through the gate and get a 50 yard line seat. I think it should remain the way it was, if parents want to see their children perform (all 1100 seats of it) they should take the extra effort and ensure themselves a seat if it means that much to them. You can’t expect to come to one game a year and get a good seat (homecoming or playoffs).

I think this is a great idea, but the real solution would be to have more seating….Lufkin wants to make more money off that stadium, to make money you have to spend money. LISD did not mind spending it on turf.

This will only move the band farther away from those of us at the other end, where we can barely hear them anyways. It would be a better idea to either move the band to the visitors side or give them some kind of temporary bleachers to free up even more seats.

I agree with Steve. Also, what if I purchase only 4 tickets for me, my husband, & my two kids, then my niece or nephew want to tag along or my kids want to bring one of their friends at the last minute, there wouldn’t any guarantee that I could purchase an extra ticket (unreserved spot) at the gate beside us. Games should be “FIRST COME -FIRST SERVED BASIS”. Just like the parking space.

Yeah! -make the non-related or fans feel less important by sitting them down at the visitor’s section of the football field. We pay school taxes too you know! Very good idea by butt if you ask me. If this the school’s idea of favortorizing the parents & relatives of the football players, band members, cheerleaders, ect. ; then why don’t they get charged more school taxes. By doing this makes the rest of the people feel like losers or lower classy.

* What about the LHS alumni that lives out of town and wants to catch a game? I agree if your student is playing: band, football team whatever the parent/relatives should make the effort, just part of being a part. Sounds like the general public is being shunned from attending. That’s not right. Is this just to solve a problem with unruly attendees? If so sounds like a little more police presence is needed. Why punish the GP for a problem that should be addressed accordingly. *

In the past few years I have been a visitor to LHS for a game. As parents we had bought our tickets at presale. Not only is parking a joke, but we were not with our fans.Everyone wants ample seating for their school, but the way you are treated when you come to LHS is a disgrace. I am proud LHS has a great fan base, but in writing your new district policy maybe you should look how people are treated visiting your school and city.

I agree with LHS Band Mom - the real solution is more seating. The stadium has been overcrowded for years. I think new bleachers at the north end for the bands and drill teams would be the ideal solution.

I will never attend another LHS football game. We have been visitors twice to your town and your home fans are rude and uncontrolled sitting on the visitors side. We even had our tires slashed in the parking lot. Now there will be even more home town rudeness on the visitors side. Add end zone seats for your fans and allow visitors the dignity to watch their children play as well. Our district does not treat their visitors so rudely. You may have a proud football tradition but need to teach respect as well.

I firmly believe that this is a horrible idea. The solution is more seating. Many fans will be unable to see panther games. The visitor side is already small when other team bands, parents, fans attend the games. I will not purchase special tickets, and LISD is being slick by forcing people to do it. BAD MOVE LUFKIN.

I dont agree with this move at all. Im currently in the military and i am coming back to lufkin in sept for the first time in 2 years. I was very excited about going to a panther game again since ive only been able to listen to the games online. (havn’t missed one broadcast since i got out of basic training in 2005) Why then should i have to sit on the visitors side? Its unfair to most of the city. Dont give favortism, get more seating!!!!!

While I agree our guests should be welcome and feel safe, isn’t this a good problem to have? It’s great to have so many people interested in the youth of our city and their success. The school administration has always made sure going to a game is an enjoyable and SAFE experience. We should wait to see how this one works out before we condemn it. GO PACK!!!!

It is sad that football plays a bigger part of this community than academics…who cares about the seating…the failure of this school system and public education throughout this state is swept under the rug to make room for something as unimportant as “where am I going to sit at a high school football game”.

OMG, NOT A GOOD IDEA LUFKIN! FIRST OFF, NOT ONLY AM I A LUFKIN GRADUATE ‘95’, BUT A HUGE PANTHER FAN. I ATTEND ALL HOME GAMES AND AS MANY OUT OF TOWN GAMES AS I CAN. AM SORRY, BUT WE ALL HAVE WAITED IN LINE FOR TICKETS TO WATCH THE GAME AND I BELIEVE THE PARENTS SHOULD TOO. I MEAN YOU WANT A SEAT GET THERE EARLY TO GET TICKETS AND A SEAT. WHY SHOULD THE PARENTS SHOW UP LATE OR WHEN EVER THEY FEEL LIKE IT AND EXPECT TO GET A SEAT (NO BRAINER, THAT’S LIFE YOU MUST WAIT IN LINE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE). I HATE THIS IDEA, IT’S NOT FAIR EVERYONE SHOULD BE TREATED THE SAME IF PARENT OR JUST A FAN. EVERYONE DESERVES THE SAME OPPORTUNITY TO A HOME SEAT (FIRST COME FIRST SERVE….PERIOD).
FOR THOSE VISTORS THAT WROTE IN, I HIGHLY DISAGREE WITH YOU ON THE PANTHER FANS. YES, WE ARE EXTREMLY PROUD OF OUR PACK AND WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THEM ALWAYS, BUT WHEN YOU SAY THAT YOU DON’T TREAT YOUR GUEST LIKE THAT WHEN THEY GO TO YOUR HOME TOWN GAMES………HA I HIGHLY DISAGREE, I GO TO OUT OF TOWN GAMES AND WE ARE TREATED JUST AS RUDELY AS YOU SAY WE TREAT YA’LL. IT’S THE SAME THING, SO DON’T GO OFF POINTING FINGURES CAUSE YA’LL DO THE SAME THING, SO DO YOU STILL WANT TO TALK ABOUT RESPECT???????????????????YOU GOT TO GIVE RESPECT TO GET IT, GO PACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW, ok not the brighest idea we’ve had Lufkin! This is not fair. Now don’t get me wrong, I understand the parents who want to watch their kids, but don’t always get to. My suggestion is get tickets early and get to the game early just like everybody else! If you work late and can’t do that, then try to find a friend or some way to make it happen. I am a HUGE panther fan because I AM a PANTHER, class of ‘04! The pride that is instilled in us for our school never dies. I too have to make a sacrifice to get tickets and good seats, but its worth it to support my team. Now, I have a nephew who plays so what about me? Shouldn’t I get the same privilege? Besides, visitors side is TOO SMALL, there is NO WAY general public is going to fit on the visitors, not to mention where will our visitors sit? Not only that, the point is we are Panther’s who deserve to sit on OUR HOME SIDE, not visitors. LHS board, don’t take our rights as fans, and former panthers to sit on OUR HOME side. I have always said I bleed PURPLE and will be a DEVOTED PANTHER FAN until my last day on this Earth, after all that’s what ya’ll taught us so don’t push us off to the visitors side just to satisfy some parents who’ve complained. Or better yet, EXPAND! After all, we pay our taxes for our wonderful Football team, so lets put it to GOOD use!
Oh, and to the visitor who posted a comment about how we are rude and need to learn to respect, well buddy that goes both ways! I have been to out of town games where the home was EXTREMELY RUDE to us. In fact, I have a friend of mine who plays in the LHS band and said that at a game the PARENTS were throwing trash and stuff at them!!! THE PARENTS, what kind of role model were they being to their kids! Not everybody is the same. Unfortunately there are some people out there who have NO RESPECT for others and its sad that because of these people a whole team and town have to be put in the same category. I am sorry for the way you were treated by some of our people, but I can guaranty you that WE ARE NOT ALL the SAME!
