Courthouse bursting at the seams
Some have called it the “ugliest courthouse in Texas” as they fondly recall it’s dome-shaped predecessor.
Whether or not people agree on the Angelina County courthouse design, one fact is clear, the county is growing exponentially and the current facilities may not necessarily be able to keep up.

In the end does it really matter? Its just a buildng. Tear the thing down and build a new one that is multi story that has pleny of room to grow. It seems that we hold on to our past way to much when we should be worried about our future.

Our court house is a disgrace. It’s old, it smells bad, it’s patched and added onto and it shows. The commissioners need to sit down, budget the money and build a new one. Make it bigger than what’s currently needed to allow for future growth. It probably needs to be several stories tall and should be designed with security in mind. Our court house is a major criminal event waiting to happen because it has NO security or controlled access. Highly charged emotional events happen in this building everyday and it can bring out the worst in a person. Just look whats happened in Tyler and other cities our size with gunmen walking in and exacting revenge. We’re only going to build one new one so lets do it right and not cut corners and build it cheap.

Of course, and put the entire project in the capable hands of the same public servants who brought in the new jail facility grossly over budget and undersized. As for the expense, simply raise property tax valuations by a sufficient amount to pay for the courthouse construction without raising tax rates. It’s always worked before. Besides, the additional security will certainly be needed if local taxpayers ever figure out how badly and long they have been scammed. Best build it now, before some dullard asks why not simply reduce the size of local government and the services it provides.

Who cares? Not me, they will do what ever they want, regardless of what taxpayers, say, want or think. Arrgoant they are!
