Citation to lose 128 jobs

About one quarter of Citation’s jobs at the Lufkin foundry will be lost beginning in August due to consolidation efforts, according to an Internet company press release.

Citation announced Thursday via its Web site at www.citation.net that it was cutting back its Lufkin workforce by 128 hourly and salaried employees. The location has a total of 466 workers. The move was a strategic decision to support capital investments at its plant in Brewton, Ala., eliminating process redundancies and optimizing its manufacturing footprint, the release stated.

There must be a new fast food place opening up here in Lufkin.

I know that’s right Kathy. Right after we hear that Tyson will be reopening the old Eckridge plant on Ellen Trout; we hear that Citation is laying off a little than 1/3 of its employees. And then we complaing about obesity in Lufkin..LOL!

Real shame to see this happen. It’s part of the economy as a whole. Too many jobs going to the far east and the value of the dollar against the euro and yen in decline. Good luck to the TF people that lose their jobs. You’ll be in many folks’ prayers. Hopefully we can have some fresh business come into the Lufkin area and help out with new jobs in the near future.

Now kathy you know there is a shortage of fast food places in lufkin . I think we should take a closer look at who is responsible for allowing so many fast food shacks to open instead of companies good with paying jobs !

Its nice to see the Lufkin Plant is a flagship for Citation yet they are taking orders from Lufkin and sending to Alabama.

Well you know they will use the temps and employees that are to be laid off to complete the orders they have on the books and to stock pile some so they can do their transition without fear of not having orders completed , then they will let people go. Just another case of Good local industry bought by a major Company and then the Company destroy’s the local industry for the benefit of its Corporation.

I wonder if Lufkin’s Mayor has really done the homework on the real rate of unemployment in this area. The unemployment rates that are constantly talked about are based on the number of individuals looking for work thru TWC, not the actual number of people without a job. Most people never even bother with TWC since the agency does not have a very good track record with helping people find GOOD jobs. How many of these soon to be unemployed workers will actually find jobs with pay scales equal or above their current? Well never fear I hear there is a need for overqualified burger flippers.

Its quite selfish for the Company to lay off so many employees in a matter of time, This only tells us one thing ” How reliable is the workforce for Citation?” It seems this Company only worries about its investments and not the employees with or without sonority. For those who continue to work their I would really re-consider working there and finding a much trustful employer!

This sounds like phase 1. Phase 2 might be locking the doors. Kinda like the paper mill and other businesses that have closed down. You guys might want to get out while you can, and beat the rush to other “good” jobs.

Yep, starve you and your family down with limited hours, to make you quit before layoffs, so they won’t have to pay out unemployment benifits. Yea, real good company to work for…not!

By are you serious?

While it is a shame of what is happening to the plant here in Lufkin, we can’t blame this on corporate america. If the corporate office goes bankrupt then everyone loses thier jobs. It’s not the jobs going overseas it is the oil prices that kill everything. Every single thing in America is tied to the oil industry. (I challenge you to find one thing that isn’t) Unfortunately look at your 401k and see how much is invested in some kind of oil company. over 80% of all 401Ks are invested in oil. So we are all killing ourselves to try to make enough to drive to work to earn the 401k that will help us when we retire, however we won’t be able to afford to buy the gas to get us to our doctors appointments. don’t blame the corporate side of this, and don’t tell people to reconsider thier positions if they aren’t being let go. Hold on tight guys, it will be a bumpy ride, but you can make it. if you do get let go, then go out and get another job. It will be hard, I know. I was recently unemployed for almost 6 months. But I kept looking and did whatever it took (legally) to earn income to support my family. You can do the same. Dont make the same mistake many did with the papermill and limit yourself to high paying jobs only. I once told a man that said he couldn’t work for less than $20 p/h that currently he was making $0 p/h. Then I asked him how that was working for him. See the point? Get out there and get a new job. Go to Aspen Power, thats the new power plant coming to the north end of lufkin. go wherever it takes to get a job. Good luck and God Bless you all. Keep the faith and He will guide you.

Wonder how much tax incentive money the little chem plant on Kurth Dr. gave back to the city? They promised about 11 jobs growing to 20+ jobs to get tax incentives and I’ve never seen more than three cars parked there. Maybe they have a good car pool program.
