I go to CISC also. I know how important thier services are to the community. I have 2 children in my home and my disabled mother also. I am so grateful for CISC that I don’t know what I would do without them. I get on the computer from friends houses or the library, so I can read the paper and look for better ways to improve my education. Without thier help I don’t know how I would feed my family.

I read the article and I found it to be a great one. But I have used help centers from time to time and volunteered at them as well. I saw the comment of the lady that uses the services because two children and a disabled mom. Something tells me she is proabably on government assistance such as medicaid, food stamps, and mom probably gets medicaid. People tend to have money to do what they want to do and have the internetand other luxury items, but when it comes down to it what is more important. I find society is a give me society, the more you get for free the happier people are and expect it. When you are told you make two much money by three dollars, and still work two jobs, and pay outrages cost in prescriptions and do not have the money to buy food. I know people like that. Sad thing is they can’t get help because of thier honesty. To bad with the summer coming on for and gas isn’t the only things going up.

I’m wondering why children have to be given food to take home for the week-end. Why aren’t their mom and/or dad or grandmother or some family member stepping up to see that their children don’t have to depend on handouts? Most likely because all the family is unemployed, on food stamps, Medicaid, welfare, you-name-it freebies and not interested in taking care of their children. Is there any follow-up like a visit to the home where these children live to see if their situation is an abusive one or one of neglect? CPS won’t step in unless a call is made to the department. How many children are being abused and/or neglected that are slipping through the cracks? If I knew a way to help, I would; however, enabling these irresonsible adults to continue to have children and not feed them is not the way I want to help.

I think the CISC program is a wonderful aid to families who need it. I am one who has been there several years ago. I can see why some go there. Its not always those who are on food stamps, medicaid it help people like me. I am 36 and get Social Security for my children since there father passed a few years back. I make to much money for food stamps or medicaid and all of the money I get goes toward taking care of them. Food, home, and just regular bills. I mean lights, water, gas, phone is optional some mo. no credit cards bills just basic stuff to survive. I know I am not the only one out there who feels the shame of asking but as a parent I will do anything for my children.I am one who doesn’t have family to call on for help. Some mo. there isn’t enough. So I am thankful I can go there when needed. I always give back I donate clothes and household stuff when I can. Just because someone goes and ask for food doesn’t mean they are not taking care of there children. If you never have to ask for help than your real lucky. If you make min. wage. and you are lucky to work 35-40 hrs a week . Its really not much. It’s hard to ask someone for food.

The comments made by Linda C. are the narrow minded assumptions that plague our society and prevent the NEED that is out there that this story is telling. Yes there is a problem with some individuals not taking care of their children when they can. However, in Lufkin the average household income is below the poverty line with both parents working full time jobs. Does this mean that hard working citizens who are trying to take care of their kids should be investigated by CPS? This is a quote from her posting * If I knew a way to help, I would; however, enabling these irresonsible adults to continue to have children and not feed them is not the way I want to help.”* Maybe I misread the posting made by the woman that this quote is directed at but I thought it said she was using a neighbors computer to read the news, meaning she did not waste money on a paper ? I thought I also read that on another posting her JOB did not cover all her bills since her HUSBAND DIED ? Explain to me how that is irresponsible. When society stops caring about those around them and helping those around them then society as a whole has failed. PLEASE remember that everyone at sometime in their life will stumble and it maybe the one that you shunned or belittled that is there to catch you in that fall.

WITH THE HELP OF THE FOOD BANKS HARD WORKING PEOPLE THAT DO NOT QUALIFY FOR ANY OTHER AID HAVE A PLACE TO TURN WHEN THE MONEY JUST DON’T MEET THE NEED. TRUE THERE ARE THOSE THAT ABUSE THE SYSTEM, AND THERE ARE THOSE THAT NEGLECT THIER CHILDREN, BUT EVERY CHILD THAT TAKES HOME “FREEBIES” IS NOT NEGLECTED OR ABUSED. I AM GLAD THAT THERE ARE ORGANIZATIONS OUT THERE TO LEND A HELPING HAND. HOPEULLY THE CRITICS OF SUCH HELPING ORGANIZATIONS WILL NEVER BE IN A POSITION TO NEED HELP. TO ALL THE “I’LL NEVER NEED HELP” PEOPLE GOOD LUCK! NONE OF US KNOW EXACTLY WHAT CAN OR WILL HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE.
