Trivia contest today at 11 a.m.!
How well do you know your Charm trivia?
At 11 a.m., we’ll post a Charm trivia question based on something from one of our past issues. The first correct answer posted to the blog wins a Charm T-shirt! (Your choice among the available designs and sizes.)
There’s no age restrictions, but it would be helpful for you to live in the area since the prize must be picked up at either the Lufkin Daily News or Daily Sentinel office.
Good luck!

Charm Lifestyle: The Fashion Shop
Look in your Sunday paper for a great Charm Lifestyle feature about The Fashion Shop, a Nacogdoches clothing institution for more than 60 years.
Features Editor Michele Marcotte talks with owner Charla Sparks about the shop’s history, the importance of customer service and her relationship with the customers she calls friends.

Up and coming singer Sarah Darling
I was fortunate enough to make it to the Downtown Cafe in Lufkin to hear a few songs from Sarah Darling. She has an amazing voice and gave a beautiful acoustic performance. She was also very engaging between songs, explaining where she found inspiration for the songs she performed.
Thanks to Robby Lynn of Yates Broadcasting and Downtown Cafe for bringing such fresh talent to Lufkin.
Here’s the video of her first single, Jack of Hearts:

Bonus Must Clicks
One of my favorite things to do is find interesting sites for the “Must Clicks” section of Charm. Usually I find more than we have room to print! Here are some extras worth checking out.

The Cubes
If you find yourself wistfully recalling the days you played with Legos and Playmobil sets, you’ll love The Cubes, corporate play sets for adults. Like many working Americans, The Cubes spend eight hours a day, five days a week, sitting at desks in tiny cubicles. But, in this corporate world, you get to be the boss! Arrange your workers, decorate their cubicles and use the job title generator to give them random, meaningless job titles like Deputy Customer Service Processor or Regional Information Associate. Fun!
National Geographic Kids
This site was named as a Parent’s Choice Recommended winner for a reason. There is something for kids of all interests, from games, videos, features and blogs. Check out the Guinness World Records video of Most Snails on a Face. Yes, apparently it IS a competition!
Nanny Deprived
Take a breather from your day to read the Real Mom stories, laugh at the Naughty Kids photos (it’s always funny when they’re not yours!) and shop for products that “make motherhood a little bit more fun.”
justjenn rants & raves
There are so many talented bloggers out there, and Jenn is no exception. She’s crafty, she’s intelligent, she’s funny and she can bake like nobody’s business. Lucky for us she’s a good writer too, which make her everyday adventures fun to follow.

Get a life!
Here’s a fun way to help your middle-schooler answer the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
From Texas Comptroller Susan Combs comes www.getalife.tx.gov.
Get a Life is a Web site that “encourages kids to dream big, explore the endless possibilities the future holds and map out a plan to get where they want to go in life,” said Combs.
The site also offers information about various careers and jobs, along with education or training requirements for those jobs.
“If our children are well-prepared to face the challenges and seize the opportunities ahead, they will succeed and Texas will prosper,” Combs said.

Two new members of the Charm family!
Congratulations to Daily Sentinel Advertising Manager Staci Hodges and her husband, Seth, who on Saturday welcomed home their precious baby girls, Adelyn and Ashlyn.
The twins were born June 9th, but had to spend a little time at a Shreveport hospital before coming home.
Mom and babies are doing fine!

Sunday’s Charm Lifestyle
Make sure you read this Sunday’s Charm Lifestyle page for important information about several state health programs targeted toward low-income, uninsured women.
Surprisingly, many women qualify for free or low-cost well-woman care without ever knowing they’re eligible.

What do you call it when…
… you have goosebumps and butterflies?
I’m trying to work while listening to the Panther game. The next issue of Charm will probably have all kinds of inadvertent “Go Pack” comments in it. I need to type carefully!
GO PACK!
