This just in from Jacqueline Becker, director of First Street Arts Center:

First Street Arts Center is pleased to announce our Shades of Red Exhibition and opening reception on Saturday, February 7, 2009, from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Lufkin. All work exhibited is local art for sale.

The Shades of Red Exhibition is a challenge for artists to do theme art work, and the Center will provide a unique and romantic venue for the occasion. Jacqueline Becker, Center director, announced that an array of chocolates and champagne will be featured, with special entertainment by opera singer Julia Ray.

The reception is open to the public free of charge. The Center is holding a raffle for a Paul Kingsbury painting, which is sponsored by Tommy’s Watch and Jewelry Store. The winner will be announced at 7:30 p.m. at the reception and does not have to be present at the drawing. To enter, please stop by the Center.

Local artists, writers, and musicians interested in presenting their work at the Center should call (936) 639-3250. We currently promote professional and nonprofessional artists living within a 100 mile radius of Lufkin.
